The Ocean Alliance's Voyage of the Odyssey will gather the first ever baseline data on the levels of synthetic contaminants throughout the world's oceans.
The Voyage of the Odyssey is now on PBS Online :

The R.V. Odyssey began the Voyage in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico
in August 1999. We collected 206 samples from sperm whales
during four months, making the expedition a success. During
our voyage we had the opportunity to create the Class
from the Sea, an interactive education program linking
the Odyssey directly to schools around the globe via the internet.
In March, 2000 the Odyssey set sail once again from San Diego, California to the Galapagos Islands where we surveyed the area for four months.
From the end of July through October, 2000, the Odyssey completed the Pacific Passage taking the scientists and crew aboard from the Galapagos to Christmas Island and Tarawa Atoll in the Republic of Kiribati.
The Odyssey surveyed the waters in and around Papua New Guinea for 6 months and Western Australia for 6 months. Currently, the Odyssey is in the Indian Ocean will be searching for sperm whales over the coming months as they travel to the Seychelles.
To learn more about our present and past expeditions, please listen to archived audio reports from the crew in Odyssey Logs and from Dr. Roger Payne in the Voice from the Sea section.
View the current position of the Odyssey daily as well as view video reports along the way in the Odyssey Video and Science in the Field sections.
We are grateful to have The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as one of our many partners throughout this voyage
